LeighonSea, which is also referred to as simply Leigh, is a district of SouthendonSea in the south of the county of Essex.
The town itself lies on the northern side of the River Thames estuary, and although close to the open North Sea, it is still only 40 miles from Central London.
Archeologists have fouynd evidence of settlements during the Roman era, and the area has been settled ever since.
With a maritime, fishing and agricultural background, LeighonSea is better known now as a suburb of SouthendonSea although it is still a charming place to visit with its waterfront, lovely High Street and the St Clements Church.
